CalSAFE Program Services

The CalSAFE program serves pregnant and parenting students in the Whittier Union High School District attendance area. The attached brochure provides a program overview and contact information: CalSAFE Brochure.
Services to pregnant students include:
  • Referrals for medical services
  • Referrals to the WIC program
  • Referral to the County of Los Angeles Department of Health Services Public Health
  • Perinatal Home Visitation Education Program
  • Referrals for clothing assistance
  • Referrals regarding legal rights of teen parents
  • Supplemental Meal Program
  • Parenting information and classes
  • Childbirth and new baby care information
  • Referral to local colleges with special services for teen parents
  • Assistance with educational placement
 
Services to parenting teens include:
  • Referrals for medical services
  • Referrals to the WIC program
  • Referrals for clothing assistance
  • Referrals regarding legal rights of teen parents
  • Supplemental Meal Program (for breastfeeding students)
  • Parenting information and classes
  • FREE Childcare in our Infant Development Center
  • Parenting resources
  • Referral to local colleges with special services for teen parents
  • Assistance with educational placement
  • Referrals to local community agencies for developmental concerns regarding their children
 
Services to Infants/Toddlers/Preschoolers include:
  • FREE Childcare in the Infant Development Center (IDC) located on the Sierra Education Center
  • Staff ratio is 1 staff member per 3 infants and 1 staff member per 4 preschool children
  • All staff are qualified in Early Childhood Education
  • FREE meals and snacks
  • Developmental assessments are completed every six months and a conference held with parents to discuss progress
  • Referrals for medical services
  • Referrals for developmental services as needed
  • Literacy activities, social/peer interaction, fine and gross motor skill development, artistic expression, science and nature activities
